Wish, an app on your smartphone for purchasing cheap products- particularly clothing, sends me emails regularly. The emails aren't personalized and I think for effective marketing, it is important to personalize the emails. When someone sees their own name, it draws attention to it and as Kevin states in his blog, using their name in the subject line of the email makes them assume that it is from a trusted source which makes for a higher opening rate. Although it's not the only way to catch a consumer's attention, it can definitely improve and increase the email's being seen that you are sending out.
